The hike leads without exception through the nature reserve "Manternacher Fiels". Rare plants grow in the cool, shady forest. Particularly impressive are the huge rock layer at the Michelslay and the passage through the narrow notch valley of the Schlammbach. In between are exceptional distant views and a vineyard in the middle of the forest. The nature conservation centre "A Wiewesch" is located in a former farmhouse in Manternach.
This exciting trail runs mainly through the nature reserve Manternacher Fiels. From the starting point Burfeld, the trail leads you over pastureland and through orchards into an impressive wooded gorge. Following the course of the river Syre, you will then climb up along the gigantic rock strata Michelslay and suddenly discover a vineyard in the middle of the forest! You continue through the narrow Kerbtal (valley) of Schlammbach (creek) before reaching the Lelliger Plateau with its exceptional views. Descending the steps of old vineyard walls, you will come across the remains of historic mills and return to Manternach. With its 91 out of 100 experience points given by the German Hiking Institute, it is no surprise that this dream loop is one of our visitor’s favourites.
