Escapes in the Moselle's Nature

The Moselle is a “Nature” landscape. Both amateur and experienced hikers will be satisfied. Many theme trails will lead you to discover countless species of fauna and flora. Everything is well laid out so that hikers can easily find their way: marked and signposted trails and a labelling system that is precise, informative and easy to understand. Some of the trails have an educational character: a discovery of nature with all the senses for young and old! Detailed brochures are available at all the tourist info desks of the region.

The Jardin Méditerrannéen (Mediterranean garden) in Schwebsange is a natural peculiarity of a very different kind. In this garden you will find figs, kiwis, persimmons and many other plants, which are atypical for the region. This garden is a living and educational example of ecological horticulture and nature protection. It is well worth taking a detour! Continue your outing in the nature reserve Haff Réimech that is home to a rich variety of birds and flowers. The natural reserve, a former gravel site, stretches out over 80 ha with some thirty ponds, sheltering nearly 220 bird species. The visitors centre "Biodiversum" with its contemporary architecture, is devoted to environmental awareness, with such themes as bird and biodiversity protection and sustainable developement. In the hinterland of the Moselle the welcome centre “A Wiewesch”, a renovated former farm located in the picturesque village of Manternach, offers an insight into rural life. On the centre‘s doorstep there is the nature reserve “Manternacher Fiels” a 132 ha area along the valley of the Syre. Various educational trails will help you discover this region where one of the priority habitats of the European network Natura 2000 subsists: the ravine-cut woodland. This landscape is unique in Luxembourg in view of its size and natural state. Discover the rural landscape, learn about history and culture, watch extensive agriculture, beekeeping, fruit growing and water purification and enjoy the many scenic views along the way.
