French clarinetist Arthur Stockel has established himself as a passionate and eclectic musician through a virtuoso career spanning solo, chamber, and orchestral performance. Appointed principal clarinetist of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg at the age of 21, he is already distinguished as one of the great musicians of his generation by his curiosity and passion. Versatile as a Swiss Army knife—yet infinitely more melodic—Arthur showcases the instrument's range by drawing on a wide spectrum of styles, all while harnessing the clarinet’s subtle lyrical and vocal qualities. This project centering on the clarinet works of Johannes Brahms is conceived as a multi-year artistic journey, aiming to present these pieces—both in concert and on record—through profound and coherent interpretations. It culminates in the recording of a double album dedicated to the complete cycle of this core repertoire. The late clarinet works Brahms composed for clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld create a unique sound world of great intimacy and expressive intensity. The project seeks to approach this body of work as a cohesive musical arc, allowing audiences to experience its evolution and internal narrative through diverse concert formats.
